Professional Homeopathy in Stockport, Cheshire from a registered homeopathic practitioner – focusing on helping your body help itself recover.
What is Homeopathy and How Can It Help?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine which involves treating an individual with highly diluted substances, given either in liquid or tablet form, with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing.
It is based on the principle that you can treat ‘like with like’, that is, a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat similar symptoms.
For example, drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and agitation, so according to this principle, when made into a homeopathic medicine, it could be used to treat people with these symptoms.
This concept is sometimes used in conventional medicine, for example, the stimulant Ritalin is used to treat patients with ADHD, or small doses of allergens such as pollen are sometimes used to desensitise allergic patients.
Homeopathic medicines (remedies) are prepared by specialist pharmacies using a careful process of dilution and succussion (a specific form of vigorous shaking).
What to expect at your homeopathic consultation
As a homeopath, our job is to get a thorough understanding of your health and the exact symptoms you are experiencing, so that we can find a homeopathic remedy which matches you and your symptoms as closely as possible.
During this confidential, in-depth ‘case-taking’ process we will want to know precise details of your current illness, but we will also ask about other aspects of your health including your past medical history, diet, lifestyle and personality.
Homeopathy is a holistic medicine and as such we consider all aspects of your symptoms and how you experience them before making a prescription. Your first consultation will usually take approximately 1 to 11⁄2 hours, depending on the amount of information needed and your symptoms.
You will be asked many questions and some of them will seem strange for those not used to homeopathy. This is so that we can build up a picture of your unique make up, a bit like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
In The Follow-Ups
The first follow-up consultation will usually be around four to six weeks after the first prescription, although in some cases it may be sooner. The session may be shorter, and I will ask about changes that have occurred.
The number of consultations an individual may need is difficult to predict – it depends on a number of factors such as your age, how long you have had your symptoms and your individual response to the remedy prescribed.
